Bernard Otto "Bernie" Stallman, 78, of Dale, passed away, Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society-Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. Bernard was born February 4, 1938 in Mariah Hill to Emil and Clara C. (Strobel) Stallman. He married Joyce C. Gehlhausen on January 19, 1963 in St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church, Siberia. Bernard was a U.S. Army Veteran. Bernard worked at Streicher Construction for 27 years and Goepferich Construction before retiring from Spencer Plastics. Bernard was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Mariah Hill YMI Council # 582 for 53 years. He was a former member of the Jasper Moose Lodge. He was a lifelong member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill. Bernard received the Simon Brute' Award in 2009 through Mary Help Of Christians Parish. Bernard is survived by his wife, Joyce Stallman , two daughters, Rebecca Rau of Dale and Anita (Steven) Oldham of Tennessee; one son, Bernard Joseph "BJ" (Pat) Stallman of Evanston; one son-in-law, Rick Evans of Dubois; twelve grandchildren, Christopher Oldham, Thomas Oldham, Brittany Moorhead, Stephanie Stallman, Seth Stallman, Megan Stallman, Gretchen Cribbs, Lelah Jerger, Jaucquline Jackson, Shannon Evans, Dianna Evans. and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Stallman & companion Anna Wirth of Santa Claus, Eugene Stallman and David (Margie) Stallman both of Ferdinand; one sister, Emily Stallman of Huntingburg. Bernard was preceded in death by two daughters, Martha Kaye Evans and Bernadette Joan Stallman; one son, John Allen Stallman and one brother, Albert Stallman. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM CST in Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by Santa Claus Legion Post 242. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00-8:00 PM CST and Tuesday from 7:00-10:30 AM CST at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
