Mary Selma (Buechler) Knust, born October 27, 1940, passed away surrounded by her family on June 4, 2026.
Mary was the daughter of George and Stella (Mundy) Buechler. She married Donald Knust on September 26, 1959, at St. Anthony Church in St. Anthony.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Donald; her five children, Kurt (Ilana Levy) Knust of Ft. Worth, TX, Kenny (Gail Hopf) Knust of Jasper, Patty (Ronnie) Knust of St. Henry, Steve (Melissa Berg) of St. Anthony, and Diana (Allen) Emmick of Henderson, KY. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren – Ben (Jocelyn) Knust of Plano, TX, Danielle (Matt) Gulotta of Clovis, NM, Adam Knust of NYC, NC, Kyle (Alyse) Knust of Jasper, Dana (Kyle) Howard of Jasper, Andrea (David) Harlen of Santa Claus, Craig (Lauren) Schwoeppe of Huntingburg, Ethan (Mariah) Knust of St. Anthony, Eli (Samantha) Knust of Newburgh, Gavin Knust of St. Anthony, Hayden Emmick of Henderson, KY, and Carsen Emmick of Henderson, KY; and greatgrandchildren – Leah and Jacob Knust, Carter Gulotta, Keagan and Calvin Knust, Adalyn, Nolan, and Breken Howard, Devin and Dawson Harlen, Lainey Schwoeppe, Aberlee and Avery Jochim. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Betty Buechler of St. Meinrad.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers and sisters – Rose (John) Fuhs, Mercedes (Roman) Hochgesang, Jake (Liseta) Buechler, Robert (Jean) Buechler, Linus (Ruth) Buechler, Charlie Buechler, and a grandson Israel.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed being with her family. In free time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and embroidery, along with flower gardening, cooking, and travel. She was a member of St. Ann Sodality, and embroidered many quilt blocks for St. Ferdinand Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 9, at 10 am EST in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, June 8th from 4-8:00 PM EST at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and also on Tuesday morning from 7-9:30 AM EST at the funeral home.
