Michael J. Hubers, 76, of Santa Claus, formerly of Jasper passed away Saturday February 8th at Norton's Pavilion Hospice in Louisville, Ky. Michael was born in St. Meinrad, Indiana on May 9, 1943 to Victor J. "Sport" & Marie A. (Ruxer) Hubers. He was united in marriage to Judith A. Reising on December 19, 1970 at Saint Bernard Parish in Fort Branch. Michael taught at Jasper High School from 1974 until his retirement in 2004. He was an Adjunct professor at Vincennes University Jasper Center. He graduated from St. Ferdinand High School in 1961, continuing his education at St. Benedict College, Oakland City College, and received his Master's Degree in secondary education from Indiana University. He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He served in Viet Nam in the 27th Headquarters Battalion. He was a former president of the Jasper Classroom Teachers Association, member of the state committee that developed state academic competitions, American Legion Boys State coordinator, and a founding member of the Dubois-Pike Federal Credit Union. Michael was a Charter member of St. Meinrad K of C # 5599, American Legion Post 242, Santa Claus where he served as Commander, Vice- Commander, and finance officer. He was a member of the Jasper V.F.W. and a former member of Jasper Legion. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Judith A. "Judy" Hubers. Two sons, Aaron (Michelle) Hubers of Fort Myers, FL. and Adam Hubers of Indianapolis. Two grandchildren, Landon Nicholas Hubers and Sydney Jane "S.J." Hubers. Two brothers, James (Marquerite) Hubers of Ferdinand and Mark (Lana) Hubers of Jasper. Also surviving are several nieces & nephews. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST Thursday February 13th in Saint Meinrad Church, burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 PM CST Wednesday at the Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand, and after 9:00 AM CST Thursday at the church.
