Rita C. Altman, 87, of Ferdinand passed away Wednesday October 23rd at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. Rita was born on December 3, 1936 in rural Ferdinand to Alois and Cecilia (Seger) Oeding. She was united in marriage to Dennis J. Altman on April 26, 1958 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Dennis preceded her in death on October 6, 2016. Rita was a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church and the St. Ann's Sodality. She was a custodian at Forest Park for many years. Rita was a member of Ferdinand D of I. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting and being with her card club friends. Surviving are two sons, Gary (Cathy) Altman and Sam (Trudy) Altman both of Ferdinand. Three daughters, Lynn (Joey) Lange and Kym Altman both of Ferdinand and Julie (Doug) Ubelhor of Bristow. Nine grandchildren, Wade and Craig "Blu" Pierce, Lori Sitzman, Leah Rasche, Alex Altman, Erin Altman, Alexa Gasser, Tori Thimling, and Shelby Altman. Thirteen great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ethan Pierce, Myah, Maddie and Maylee Pierce, Kylie and Clay Sitzman, Myla and Evie Rasche, Cameron And Avery Altman, Tate Gasser and Isla Thimling. Three sisters, Cyrilla Betz of Huntingburg, Almeda Hurst of Mariah Hill, and Joan Oeding of Ferdinand. Rita was preceded in death also by two brothers, James and Jerome Oeding, one sister, Aline Gogel and a godchild, Mike Oeding. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday October 30th at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday October 29th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and continuing on Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
