Robert L. Hoppenjans, 82 of Bretzville passed away Wednesday June 6th at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis, In. Robert was born May 19, 1936 in Bretzville to Henry & Verena (Muth) Hedinger Hoppenjans. He was united in marriage to Sarah M. Jochum on June 19, 1958 in Saint Henry Catholic Church. Robert was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and its St. Joseph's Sodality. He retired from OFS Brands Plant # 2 and was a farmer. His hobbies were cooking turtle soup, hulling walnuts, wine making, working on older CASE tractors and enjoying spending time with his family & friends. Surviving are his wife of 59 years Sarah M. Hoppenjans, 4 sons, Richard (Carolyn) Hoppenjans of St. Henry, Gerald "Jerry" (Sharon) Hoppenjans of Birdseye, James "Jim" (Carolyn) Hoppenjans of Ferdinand, and Kenneth "Kenny" (Joyce) Hoppenjans of Fulda. 2 daughters, Martha (Gerald) Sitzman of St. Meinrad, and Anna Hoppenjans of Huntingburg. 14 grandchildren, Jessica Eckert, Eric Hoppenjans, Justin Bauer, Heather Bauer, Nathan Sitzman, Travis E. Sitzman, Nicholas Hoppenjans, Chad Hoppenjans, Joshua Hoppenjans, Jordan Hoppenjans, Danielle Mayes, Tyler Hoppenjans, Kayala Hoppenjans, and Jonathon Hoppenjans. 11 great-grandchildren, Channing Eckert, Kailey Hoppenjans, Kylie Sitzman, Clay Sitzman, Charlotte Sitzman, Edmund Sitzman, August Hoppenjans, Holden Hoppenjans, Madison Albert, Cohen Hoppenjans, and Brooklyn Hoppenjans. 2 sisters, Mary Alice Hassfurther of Mariah Hill and Helen Kraus of Boonville. He was preceded in death by siblings, Irma Reutman, Rose Mary Trowbridge, Leonard Hoppenjans, Frank Hedinger, Joseph Hedinger, Clarence Hedinger, Emma Welp and several in-laws. Funeral services for Robert L. Hoppenjans will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday June 12th in Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
