Roman Jochem, 89, of St. Henry, passed away on June 28, 2026, at Serenity Springs surrounded by his loving family.
Roman was born in St. Henry to Emil and Mayme (Sermersheim) Jochem on October 29, 1936. He married Mary Ann Boehm on June 1, 1957, at St. Boniface in Fulda.
Roman was a farmer who loved both farming and his family. He also loved to take Sunday drives, attending Monte Cassino Pilgrimages, and eating sweets, especially orange slices. He was very involved in his church and his prayer life, both praying the rosary and praying with his family. Roman belonged Christ the King Parish, St. Henry Church, St. Henry Catholic Knights of America, and the St. Henry Community Club.
He is survived by 3 sons: Michael (Lori) Jochem of St. Henry, Daniel (Jan) Jochem of St. Anthony, and Patrick (Glennda) Jochem of Ferdinand; 7 daughters: Norma (Brian) Stetter of Schnellville, Karen (Glen) Vonderheide of St. Anthony, Charlotte (Scott) Schnaus of Ireland, Joyce (Brian) Gehlhausen of Ireland, Linda (Kelvin) Lindauer of St. Meinrad, Diana (Rob) Schlachter of Ferdinand, and Martha (Jason) Hagedorn of Dale; 28 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren, with one on the way, and 2 great -great grandchildren, with one on the way. He is further survived by 2 sisters: Verena Nordhoff of Jasper and Lucille (Glenn) Dooley of Huntingburg.
Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; 2 sisters: Esther Welp and Cyrilla Knies; one grandchild, Joseph Jochem.
Funeral services will be on Monday, July 6th, at 10:00 AM EST at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow funeral services. Friends may call on Sunday, July 5th, at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 4:00 PM EST until 8:00 PM EST, and also on Monday from 7:00 AM EST to 9:30 EST at the funeral home.
