Silas A. “Hike” Heichelbech, 94, of Ferdinand passed away on Friday, April 24th at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. Silas was born October 5, 1931 in Ferdinand to George and Elizabeth (Gehl) Heichelbech. He married Mary Alice Jones at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Tell City on October 5, 1957.
Silas worked at DMI Furniture for 36 years. He was Plant Manager at the time of his retirement.
Silas was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124.
He enjoyed horseshoe pitching, bowling and golf. His favorite card game was poker. Silas was always ready for a game of poker.
Silas is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Alice of Ferdinand and his daughter, Jackie Bockelman (Doug Laake) of Jasper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Heichelbech; son, William (Bill) Heichelbech; son-in-law, Michael Bockelman; three sisters, Alberta Zink, Betty Bickwermert and Mary Frances Mulryan; three brothers, Lawrence, Walter and Roman Heichelbech.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 28th at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 8-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
