Valeria H. “Bootsie” Schwoeppe, 82, of St. Henry passed away March 17, 2026 at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper. “Bootsie” was born on June 20, 1943 in Ferdinand to Alois and Leona (Braunecker) Mehling. She was united in marriage to Charles E. Schwoeppe on November 24, 1960 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Charles preceded her in death on February 26, 2006.
Valeria was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Henry Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She was also a member of St. Henry Christian Knights of America, and St. Henry Community Club. Valeria worked along- side her husband Charles on the family farm, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed canning, playing Euchre, raising flowers, mowing grass, weed eating, and working on the farm. She loved being around family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are three sons, Dwain (Kelly) Schwoeppe, Ronnie (Patty) Schwoeppe, and Darren Schwoeppe all of St. Henry. Two daughters, Jackie (Jim) Wagner of St. Henry, and Lisa (Richard) Cline of Kyana. Eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Mike (Linda) Mehling of Jasper, and Kenneth Mehling of Ferdinand. Two sisters, Norma Roos of Dale, and Sue (Terry) Weyer of Ferdinand. Two sister in laws, Shirley Mehling of Evansville, and Mary Lou (Darrell) Weisman of Ireland. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Lee and Stanley Mehling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday March 23, 2026 at 11:00 AM EST in St. Henry Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM EST on Sunday March 22nd at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand, and continuing on Monday from 9:00 AM until the service time at the church.
